Bermuda Grass Seed
I was visiting my local feed store the other day in search of the best Bermuda grass seed for my yard. I really don’t know much about Bermuda grass seed other than I already have it in my yard now and just wanted to seed a new section to match my existing grass.
The lady at the feed store told me that Bermuda Common grass seed is the most widely used seed for my area and would probably be the best match for my existing yard.
I bought a 50 pound bag for $165, wow….is this gold laced seed?
The brand name I bought was Allstar Seed Company out of California, and I live North of Houston Texas…so I guess it will grow just fine here too.
The seed is VERY small, and really pretty hard to see when I was spreading it. I used a normal lawn fertilizer spreader and a hand held spreader as well.
I used the smallest application setting since this seed was so expensive I did not want to waste it and would rather apply two coats if needed than have used too much and not have enough for the job.
Immediately after the application of the Bermuda grass seed I watered fairly liberally. I was told to expect to see germination in about a week since its late spring time here now. I understand that there are not many common diseases or bugs that will damage bermuda grass seed like many other common grasses. So far, I have not seen anything out of the ordinary or any dead or brown patches in my lawn.
I found this video which was helpful for me, I hope you find it helpful as well.
